"Hello. My name is Cori and I... am a tree hugger. Some may think this to be a bad thing but I believe that being mindful of our impact on the planet that sustains our lives SHOULD be an important part of everyone's daily life. I'm not an extremist but I do what I can to minimize my footprint."

Food

Try a New Way to Prep

I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Water

Say No to Plastic Straws

An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

DAILY ACTIONS

Health

Happiness

I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

COMPLETED 18
DAILY ACTIONS

Food

Reduce Animal Products

I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.

COMPLETED 18
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Skip the Straw

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

I never knew there was such a thing!  Thank you for posting this under the "Learn More" button.

I have to use straws because my teeth are sensitive to cold. I tried the reusable ones but got grossed out because I could never clean them correctly.  This is a PERFECT solution to both problems AND helps the environment :D

    THANK YOU!

What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

I'm not sure what contributes to it other than maybe advertising or fast foods, misinformation on healthy balances, and too fast paced of a life so we go for what's quick and easy.  Quick and easy is usually meat on bread of some type.
