  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

Okay, so taking your own cup into Starbucks is an accepted practice.  How does this continue with other beverages in other venues and locations?  As long as one is being served, it is difficult.  Can it be implemented at self serve locations, without buying bottles or cans which have a lot of embodied energy, even when recycled?  Just sayin'
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Choose Two-Sided Printing
Choosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?

Okay, so one needs printers that print to both sides.  Simple settings make this a default.  Not a challenge.  The next challenge should be "do you really need to print that"!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? Do you know how your compost will be used and the benefits it has on the environment?

Why is it harder to compost in the Winter?  It seems like the natural compostable foods are more plentiful in the Summer and one thinks about the nutrients going to the soil in the growing season.  Also, turning your compost when its wet, rainy and cold is hard!

How do you practice self care?

Self care starts with family care.  By caring for loved ones, one advocates for self care.  Self care is practicing on yourself what your loved ones would like for you.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

It is a cultural thing.  I've noticed a geographical correlation as well.  Where an economy includes meat production, the natural tendency is to support that in the diet presented.  This also goes along with healthy and organic choices.  It's more expensive to buy foods that are more basic.  Go Figure....

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Recycle Everything I Can
What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

    William Bailey's avatar
    William Bailey 10/17/2018 7:39 AM
Recycling is not easy.  Finding a place for the items not accepted at curbside is getting harder and harder.  Markets overseas for our junk has dried-up.  We need a market for processed recyclables!
