I planted some clover and vetch and broad bean seeds in an empty bed . They should flower early for the first bees of spring.

My newly planted winter crops are doing well in our mild autumn. So they'll keep drawing down some CO2 over the winter until we eat them

I took a walk around the Ham Lands at tewkesbury. One side is bounded by the river severn and the other by the Avon. Rivers define the area here and walking round lets my brain absorb the topography better and see the abbey from quite a different side.

Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?

    HILARIE BOWMAN's avatar
    HILARIE BOWMAN 10/13/2018 1:38 PM
Food sovereignty for some areas of the people means not travelling the complex agrarian transition with its fertilisers , herbicides and pesticides and big loans from banks. For those already gone down that road it means working to build soil fertility naturally through organic methods . In the UK we can start by collecting all our food waste and not using it for bio fuel but composting and returning to the land. Food should trump energy inthe extreme circumstances of global warming.

My earthworm box is going well. When i lifted the lid today and moved the top layer there were lots of worms there. Tomorrow I will drain off the work soup and use it for the winter lettuces etc that i planted last week. Ate home grown potatoes and a very fat carrot for lunch.

I noticed that my gym has refitted the showers with ones that run for 30 seconds and then switch off automatically. you can switch on again but it makes me more aware of using water and will prevent showers being left on by mistake
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? Do you know how your compost will be used and the benefits it has on the environment?

If I put food waste in my green bin it will be taken to St neots and composted. I also have a new worm bin and I checked it today and lots of worms were eating the food.

I meet people at the gym and in the swimming pool and in the sauna. Tonight i met up with a fellow Town Councillor in the pool and then exchanged muscle/bone pain issues with a person in the sauna.

I noticed that my bedside light which is a touch lamp with 3 light levels has a transformer which was warm even when the lamp was off. I measured the usage of electricity for the off lamp and it was 1 watt which doesn't sound much but over a year it would cost me over £8. £8 could enable 2 children in Africa to have a solar lamp via solar aid. And for me I can use my own solar lamp instead of my bedside lamp, so now it is unplugged permanently until the world is all renewable electricity.
