Simplicity

Meditate

I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 30 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.

COMPLETED 22
DAILY ACTIONS

Simplicity

Needs Vs. Wants

I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.

COMPLETED 22
DAILY ACTIONS

Waste

Skip the Straw

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

COMPLETED 22
DAILY ACTIONS

Simplicity

Less Screen Time

I will replace 30 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.

Where I've been, where I am and where I want to go.  What can I do better?  How can I be better, kinder, and more mindful that my words and actions affect the world around me?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

It's really difficult to put down electronics, not check social media, email or watch TV.  I turned off my landline years ago and its natural to carry my cell everywhere.  With my cell I have access to everything.  Have a question, Google the answer.  Want to read, check the newest books on Kindle.  Want to see what's happening in the world, check out the news...  I chose spending more time with my dog.  We've played some soccer and toss the dino.  He's really happy and now when he sees me checking my phone, he nudges my are as if to say, "put that down."

Reducing the number of straws ending up in a landfill is surprisingly difficult.  Even though I tell my server I don't need one or please don't give me a straw, I'm continually giving them back.  It's a habit some servers will have a hard time breaking.

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

Switch to glass.  Instead of using plastic food storage containers or plastic bags, use glass.  You reduce your "plastic" footprint and are able to reuse the container time and time again.
