Energy
Support Resilient Powergrids
A community can be brought to its knees without dependable power, often affecting the most vulnerable. I will write 1 letter(s) or email(s) each day to a public official or company to advocate for a more resilient power grid (e.g. microgrids, solar+storage)
Health
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
I will spend 30 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, their causes, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Food
Meet My Local Farmers
I will visit my nearest farm to find out who produces my food, and will learn about the quality of life of those who produce my food in other regions of the world to make better choices when I shop.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Try a New Way to Prep
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 1 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.

Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Brenna Burke 10/04/2018 7:40 PMOur family has committed to a gluten-free trial for health reasons. This has led to more meals from scratch and more inventive ways of cooking, particularly for school lunches. It’s been tough for my pickiest eaters, but hopefully helpful in the long run! -
Brenna Burke 10/04/2018 7:38 PMThis has been a super busy week, but that is one of the points of the challenge. How can you fit in eco-changes in when it’s easy and difficult? How’s it going for you? -
