Liz Hardee 10/24/2018 9:46 AMI had one more challenge to complete today which was to advocate for better food packaging options. I decided to focus on asking my local supermarket to include a taring station for its bulk foods section, so that I can bring my own containers and save the plastic bags that would have been used. We'll see what they say! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Liz Hardee 10/24/2018 9:35 AMKnowing that if we keep doing so, we could jeopardize the future of our species and many others. -
Liz Hardee 10/22/2018 1:17 PMOK, I kinda slipped up yesterday and forgot to bring my reusable produce bags with me to the grocery store so I had to use one of the plastic ones (I wouldn't have used one at all but I was getting beans). But, I have noticed myself doing a lot better at noticing which of my purchases tend to come in plastic and what kinds of plastic they are using. I intend to keep being mindful of this! -
Liz Hardee 10/18/2018 4:23 PMNot related to this challenge per se, but I have been writing to the tip lines at my favorite publications to ask them to increase and center their coverage about climate change, so that it is in front of more people with greater frequency. -
Liz Hardee 10/17/2018 8:41 AMTaking the day off from exercising today, I pinched a nerve in my neck yesterday and it's been difficult to do anything that requires a lot of movement. -
Liz Hardee 10/16/2018 9:03 AMWhat's interesting as I'm researching our plastic waste problem is that most sites say it takes fewer resources to manufacture a plastic bag than it does to manufacture a paper one. Which means that in practice, the use of plastics would be a more environmentally friendly option if they were all recyclable. But as we know, we have an end-of-life problem with plastics in that they make their way into the environment and take forever to break down. Now I'm wondering if the solution isn't necessarily to stop using plastics, but to ensure that if plastic is used, every place has the ability to recycle it (and even beyond the second use). -
Liz Hardee 10/16/2018 8:53 AMYesterday I needed some rice for dinner. Most rice comes in plastic packaging, but I managed to find some in a cardboard box. -
Liz Hardee 10/13/2018 8:03 PMHad the chance today to accept plastic bags for some produce I bought, but found some cardboard boxes for it instead. -
Liz Hardee 10/12/2018 9:17 AMCompletely spaced my 10 minute workout yesterday! Planning a 20 min one later today to make it up! -
Liz Hardee 10/10/2018 8:56 AMHaven't found the time yet to write my grocery store and ask them to consider reducing the plastic waste associated with their products- need to do that soon. But, I did write a bunch of news outlets the other day to ask them to step up their reporting on climate change, which is not even one of the challenges, so there's that. :)
