    I am taking shorter showers and installing low flow fixtures. I have also installed dual flush low-flow toilets and opted for a home with fewer bathrooms.

    I think we have a disconnect with our waste because we have the idea that it goes "away." However, there is truly no place where waste can be put that doesn't have an impact on the environment around it.

    Reducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

    I like that paper products like junk mail aren't being produced just to be quickly recycled again. I want to keep reducing the amount that I use.

    I buy fewer one-time disposable items and instead spend a little more for quality reusable items.
