Laura's actions
Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 6 hour(s) in my community during the challenge.
Health
Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my Home
I will spend 60 minutes researching toxic chemicals found in cleaning supplies and personal care products and remove them from my home.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 15-minute walk outside each day.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Choose Two-Sided Printing
I will save up to .21 lbs (.09 kg) of paper each day by switching from one-sided printing to two-sided.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Laura Kirby 10/12/2018 8:44 AMTwo or three times now I've gotten straws automatically put in my water and it's spoiling my challenge. Once was at a bar that even had a sign saying straws were only given out by request. Makes me realize a lot of things that need to change are at a bigger level than just personal. Corporations (big and small) need to modify their ways as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Laura Kirby 10/04/2018 11:03 AMI've been a vegetarian for over 9 years now. Excluding meat from one's diet helps the environment in a plethora of ways. Water conservation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions are two important reasons I'm passionate about it. This short article is eye-opening: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/meat-and-environment/
