Over this weekend I did not have any time to check in unfortunately. The reason for this however was a good one. I spent a wonderful couple of days on a farm stay at Willow Witt ranch down in Ashland. They were nearly 100% self sufficient, having the only power coming from solar energy they collected themselves, and the water they used being sourced from about 12 springs, all surrounding their property. The farm was such a wonderful experience, and the women who own it are truly amazing people, doing their best to teach as many as they can about sustainability and practices that protect our earth. My only grievance was that I live so far away and cannot visit more often!

So far my challenge is off to a bit of a rocky start. I've been distracted lately by work, relationship issues, and most recently, food poisoning. A couple of times I have already begun to wonder if it was worth it to keep up with everything or not. But I have made up my mind. I cannot let myself be distracted, and cannot let myself fall behind! I will from here on be completing these challenges to the best of my ability, learning more and doing more to make a change.

What most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint?

The thing that actually surprised me the most about my energy footprint was how much energy is used to heat my home. I moved in shortly after its completion this summer, and so have not had much need to heat the space. With all the heat this summer we were able to keep cool rather easily, but with the colder weather moving in and only the one heating unit in the house, the amount of energy required was higher than expected.
However, my rating was still quite good, and though there are still measures that I could take to reduce my energy usage, I am confident in the efforts I have already made.
