REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Find Local Recycling DepotsOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
Ellen Krusi 10/24/2018 3:56 PMI found that I can take holiday string lights to be recycled at several locations in Portland, including the Metro Transfer Station. As I've replaced my string lights with LED versions, I'm happy to find a way to dispose of the old strings in a responsible way. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Ellen Krusi 10/24/2018 3:53 PMTo practice self care, I try to let myself have extra sleep whenever my body tells me it needs it. I also try to make sure I am eating nutrient-rich foods when I'm stressed out, to give my immune system the boost it needs. -
Ellen Krusi 10/24/2018 1:15 PMLast day! Its been a great Ecochallenge, can't wait to see the final tally of our collective impact! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn About Local Environmental Justice ConcernsWho is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?
Ellen Krusi 10/24/2018 1:12 PMMost affected by environmental degradation are native populations and marginalized groups. Their food and water sources are contaminated, they are more impacted by drought, wildfires, and energy issues. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Launch a Recycling ProgramHow might thinking creatively help us address big systems problems differently?
Ellen Krusi 10/23/2018 5:47 PMBy breaking out of the old patterns that got us into the problems in the first place. -
Ellen Krusi 10/23/2018 5:46 PMOnly one more day to earn points, let's sprint to the finish line Team Waterleaf! -
Ellen Krusi 10/22/2018 12:16 PMOnly 3 days left, can we beat DOWA-IBI? Go team Waterleaf! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Ellen Krusi 10/19/2018 1:21 PMIt makes me feel disappointed that the majority of mail I receive is unsolicited advertising junk, it is extremely rare that I receive a handwritten letter or useful piece of mail. My next step to reduce my waste is to take advantage of more digital options rather than printing for items such as event tickets. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Work-Life BalanceIs practicing work-life balance difficult to do? How does it feel when you first begin? How does this feel for you after 21 days?
Ellen Krusi 10/18/2018 4:38 PMWorking no more than 8 hours a day is hard, especially when I fill my lunch break with meetings. What feels more achievable is to work more hours when I need to, but balance that with working less hours when my workload is light.
