REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Peggy La Point 10/24/2018 4:58 PMPutting something in the garbage one at a time doesn`t have as big of an impact as seeing three works worth sitting in front of you. It makes you re-evaluate your purchases and where you can cut waste. I don`t think much about buying a box of individually wrapped tea bags, but when you look at 14 tea bag sleeves, it`s more thought-provoking.-
Anthony Yeznach 10/24/2018 7:21 PMLet's work on the tea. There are compostable empty tea.bags available that you.can put loose tea.into. They are inexpensive, easy to use, and in general, fantastic.

Peggy La Point 10/24/2018 4:55 PMAs some of you know, I`ve been carrying my garbage with me each day and then collecting it in a bag. My final challenge was to do a waste audit. So here`s a photo of all of the waste I collected over 3 weeks. The stuff in the upper left are banners and tent awnings, and they actually come from KINK and Live 95. The rest is mostly packaging from food. I did buy a Hop Pass shortly into the challenge but another piece of waste I need to focus on are the holders from my individual tea bags. I haven`t liked most loose tea that I`ve tried but I need to try a few more...that`s a goal for me over the next 6 months (when my current tea supply runs out) -

Peggy La Point 10/19/2018 5:29 PMWe’re in the home stretch and I’ve got two more prizes to give out.
One bottle of red wine vinegar (made by Anthony...aka Antman) and 3 reusable snack bags will go to the person with the highest points at the end of the EcoChallenge. The other bottle of red wine vinegar and set of 3 snack bags will go to someone who has had at least 5 check ins throughout the challenge. Good luck!-
Anthony Yeznach 10/19/2018 11:23 PMFor those of you in the running, and those not, here's what the red wine vinegar is all about:
In the spirit of the challenge, this is re-purposed red wine, packaged in re-cycled wine bottles, and corked with a single-use cork that is produced from renewable resources.
Specific details: The starting blend of wine for this year's vinegar is 60 Malbec/40 Cabernet Sauvignon. It is NOT diluted as most commercial red wine vinegar is. It is NOT fermented hot, so like most hand, home or boutique red wine vinegars it retains all the floral fragrance (esters) that the aceto bacter put into it. It ferments for a year in a glass fermenter and is then tapped off and bottled. The same fermenter, with a substantial heel of the vinegar, is refilled and used for the next year's batch. The same way vinegar has been made in rural Italy for centuries.
It is strong and floral. It is fantastic on salads. It is great in cooking, for example when making ratatouille or caponata. If you find it too strong, dilute it slightly with good water.
Ciao, bella!

Peggy La Point 10/19/2018 12:48 PMI'm pretty sure that the weather played a huge part in my being able to walk/bike 10 out of 14 work days so far this challenge. The rain coming Tuesday will not stop me though :) -

Peggy La Point 10/17/2018 12:47 PMWoke up w/a migraine and sluggish, so I ended up driving to work because I had to be there at 8a. I decided to make the best of it and do a couple of errands on the way home. Once I got home, I decided it was too nice to go in the basement and sew, so I`ve been outside cutting back my grapevines and trying to make something out of them. I still have my migraine, but at least I`m enjoying the beautiful day.
