Locally, I try to be careful about the disposal of batteries, paints and other solvents that can harm the local watershed. I look up local waste disposal dates in order to dispose of these products safely.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Install a Toilet Tank BankName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Christine Laliberte 10/18/2018 11:16 AMGlobally one of my main concerns is the affect of micro plastics. One way I want to try and improve upon this issue is to buy clothing, blankets and other fabric based supplies that are cotton, linen, wool or other naturally occurring materials vs. polyester, acrylic and the like.
Locally, I try to be careful about the disposal of batteries, paints and other solvents that can harm the local watershed. I look up local waste disposal dates in order to dispose of these products safely. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Support Native CommunitiesIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Christine Laliberte 10/15/2018 11:51 AMWithout balance we will not be able to sustain anything. If we are too singularly focused, then everything else suffers. It's important to understand how things intertwine with one another and find a way to enrich the whole, not the individual. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Forage for My FoodAmongst the motivations for foraging are: a source of food; means of income; connecting with nature; cultural tradition; or transmitting "local ecological knowledge, and a means for stewarding local and native plant populations" (McLain et al. 2012, 13). Which of these would be your chief motivation and why?
Christine Laliberte 10/11/2018 1:48 PMI think connecting with nature and stewarding local and native plant populations would be the main motivations for me. I would like to learn more about native and local plant life, and educate myself on how to care for these plants when so many non-native plants are trying to take over. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Connect with a NonprofitWhat inspires you to act toward a more sustainable community?
Christine Laliberte 10/11/2018 1:47 PMIt can feel hard to make a difference, but when you start small, like within your own community, you get to reap the rewards quicker. Who knows, maybe it helps other communities take notice and expand the practice much further than you ever thought would happen. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Go for a Daily WalkFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Christine Laliberte 10/11/2018 1:45 PMTaking a walk, especially at lunch time, re-invigorates me to get back to work. The fresh air, sunshine (if I'm lucky) and just time away from the computer screen are all positives to my day. -
Christine Laliberte 10/10/2018 2:47 PMI need to set a reminder so I remember to check in daily and log my progress!
