Sarah's actions
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 10-minute walk outside each day.
Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Transportation
Use Public Transit
I will use public transit 20 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to 6.49 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Create Your Own Action
Electronic Recycling
Participate in a community electronic recycling event. Recycle old CDs, VHS tapes, floppy discs, charger cables, etc.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
Sarah Maas 10/22/2018 6:43 AMIf I don't have a reusable bag, I put things in my purse or accept a disposable one. I can always reuse the disposable one as a trash bag, or recycle it. This challenge has made me conscious of where to keep "spare" reusable bags so that I always have one on hand. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not?
Sarah Maas 10/03/2018 11:51 AMNo, because I've heard these numbers before. I think if we would invest more money into transportation, especially public transportation, we could make it a better option than everyone driving a car for their commute. It would be nice if the federal government would provide cities with grants for the construction of commuter trains! I think Omaha, Nebraska needs a commuter train that goes up and down Dodge St.
