  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Buy From a Farmers Market
What is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?

Eat less meat. Find more non-meat options that I like. This is difficult because I don't like trying new foods. It's clear however that meat is not ecologically sustainable, at least not on the massive scale the world needs.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Go by Bike
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Bob Maczko's avatar
    Bob Maczko 10/10/2018 4:01 PM
I don't think it does. Whether I am riding, walking, or driving; transportation to me is about getting from one place to another. It doesn't change how I engage (or choose not to engage) my community.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

By using smart outlets for the heaters in my apartment.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?

I've recently learned just how bad plastic bags are and if I have to take them, I'll try my best to re-use them and not recycle or throw them in the trash.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?

As tap water becomes more risky to drink, turning to bottled water becomes easier and possibly safer. Yet we create more plastic waste by throwing away bottles and not all of the plastic gets recycled. I think that I can make a little change by instead of buying bottled water in 24 packs, just buying my water in gallon jugs. If I then pour the water into a reusable bottle, then I'm conserving more by creating less plastic waste.

I personally have no qualms with my tap water here, but have you considered a charcoal filter instead of buying water in plastic? While yes, buying the bigger container is better than a bunch of smaller ones, the problem is still the same.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Simplicity Go for a Daily Walk
Fresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
