REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Allison McPhail 10/24/2018 9:29 PMIt helps keep in mind the fact that there are good things in life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Track my PurchasesWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Allison McPhail 10/24/2018 9:28 PMI actually was pleasantly surprised. I thought I was spending more than I am. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Express My SupportWhat sustainability issues are most pressing or prominent where you live?
Allison McPhail 10/22/2018 4:00 PMThe Kinder Morgan pipeline MUST be stopped if Canada is going to have any chance of meeting its targets for the Paris Accord. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Allison McPhail 10/22/2018 3:58 PMNorth Americans really do love meat. Our version of Chinese food is mostly meat dishes. Most of our fast food joints are burger places. And big breakfasts at restaurants often come with bacon AND sausage. I don't really know why this is, but not many people challenge it. I'm not convinced that a 100% Vegan diet is necessary for individuals to combat climate change, but I do agree that it needs to be cut significantly. I think a single serving a few days a week is sufficient. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Allison McPhail 10/15/2018 7:14 PMIt advocates for a return to people-centred policies and sustainable farming -
Allison McPhail 10/04/2018 11:07 PMDidn't realize the Create Your Own challenge was a daily. I wrote a one-timer. -
Allison McPhail 10/03/2018 11:01 PMFirst day, and it's harder than I thought it would be to stop for 10 minutes. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? Do you know how your compost will be used and the benefits it has on the environment?
Allison McPhail 10/03/2018 5:38 PMI love that our city has an industrial facility capable of composting things like bones and cat litter. I'm not sure how the city uses it, though I think they might sell at least some of it. It is good for the environment because it diverts waste from landfills and instead puts the nutrients back into the ecosystem. -
Allison McPhail 8/30/2018 12:53 PMAmazing news, Eco Warriors! Canada's courts have overturned the approval of the Kinder Morgan Pipeline expansion. This is cause for major celebration! -
