Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of C02 over the course of the next year.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Participant Feed

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Switch to Cold WaterWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Shannon McWeeny 10/10/2018 8:43 AMI don't necessarily save any money from this action, as I just use my apartment buildings washing machine. However, I didn't realize this small change (washing my clothes in cold water instead of warm/hot) would save so much energy! This was such a small change for me to make, and it made no difference to how my clothes felt or how clean they were, so I feel like this is a super easy change for everyone to make every time they do laundry -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
Shannon McWeeny 10/03/2018 3:18 PMI usually do most of my shopping at Aldi which really promotes the use of reusable bags, so it's not out of the ordinary for me to choose a reusable bag over a plastic, disposable one. Whenever I am out and need to go shopping but I dont have one on me, i usually just purchase one at whatever store Im at (they're only like $2 at Aldi!) that way at least I'll have an extra one around the house for the future. However, I usually at least have a backpack with me, so if I just have a few items, I am able to put them in there and avoid a bag altogether
