“When we experience positive emotions, we think more clearly, solve creative problems, work more productively, build fruitful relationships, and even increase our colleagues’ productivity. When we’re calm rather than stressed or anxious, we also make better decisions and fewer mistakes.”
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Meet My Local Farmers
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

I think that it helps make conmections within the community. It is what makes towns feel like they support each other. I think it is amazing when the local chefs make a point to get to know the local farmers to see where their product is coming from, it makes for a great partnership.

What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

My husband and I are both chefs, so i love to educate others in the community about how far food travels to get places and what is grown here in South Carolina that we can enjoy in the different seasons. We are also blessed with many farmer’s markets that we can purchase these products and some grocery stores even sell the local products. #charlestonlocalgrown
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "...our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." Respond to Berry's assertion.

The most beautiful things are not associated with money; they are memories and moments.

How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

I encourage my friends all the time to come workout with me. Sometimes it could be as simple as a walk along the beach or in our neighborhood.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Work from Home
It takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. Are you in an industry that would allow you to work from home? What are some obstacles you might find yourself facing while working from home?

Working from home can sometimes be distracting as I have 3 cats and many things I could be doing around the house.  Although I could work from home every once in a while, my job does not really allow me to most of the time. 3 months ago, we decided to move our family closer to the city when we could finally afford it, and I went from an hour to an hour and a half commute to just 15-20 minutes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?

I will carry items, a lot of times, people will bag things like gallons of milk of laundry detergent that already have a built in handle to carry. I try to keep the bags in my car.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Buy From a Farmers Market
What is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?

I could eat more green foods.
