I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.

UNCOMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Waste

Reduce Single-Use Disposables

Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.

I eagerly awaited the sunrise this morning but saw a beautiful overcast sky. Looks like PNW fall time is almost officially here!

Today, my office held a lunch and learn called "An Ocean of Plastic & You," in partnership with Surfrider Foundation and with support from Multnomah County Commissioner Lori Stegmann. We discussed plastic pollution and some impactful solutions that we can implement locally.

The second picture is from a lunch and learn event held earlier this week, "Sustainability & Justice at Work," presented by OPAL, and with support from Multnomah County Commissioner Vega Pederson.

To walk the walk, check out our climate-friendly food spread and the durable plates and utensils! In general, my office only spends our money on plant-based food and only uses durables as an absolute worst case / last resort. Durables are just part of my event prep routine and I never think twice about packing them, or about serving food that is healthy for people and less impactful on Earth.

Happy Salmon Homecoming weekend, everyone! Had a lovely group of folks attend the Salmon Spawning Viewing yesterday at Oxbow, though we, unfortunately, didn't see any salmon due to low water levels. When it rains they will be sure to arrive by the thousands. We learned about the importance that salmon plays in our forest ecosystem and how salmon predate the forests, even! So thankful to have passionate learners and fun friends with whom to explore our own backyard!

Howdy, friends! If you weren't able to check in over the weekend, it's not too late! You can use the little arrows to turn back time (like Superman, remember?!?!?!?) and help you navigate to the day you missed checking in, and report on all the great stuff you're doing.
