I had to choose a "make your own challenge" because I've been getting involved in local politics and it doesn't quite fit in any of the community challenges but I feel like it is some of the most fundamental work to creating the kind of community I want to live in. I spent a couple hours phone banking tonight, canvassed on Saturday, and will be text banking next week. And I'm going to pray, pray, pray that things go the right way.

The limiting social media activity is sort of weird because doing this technically is social media.

When I was in junior high our math teacher had us keep and weight our garbage. I forget what math lesson we were supposed to learn from it but oh did we hate that project. But looking back, I think he was very ahead of his time. He was trying to tech us math and about our individual impact on the environment. I didn't weigh my garbage this time, but I did look in our garbage bin as it was garbage day. We have a small bin that is always full after two weeks... I don't know if this is normal for a normally 3 person, sometimes 4 person house.

Why is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?

Because we throw it away and don't have to see where it goes. It will make me more mindful about how something is packaged, it won't just be about the thing itself that I am buying.
