Angela's actions
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Waste
Launch a Recycling Program
I will start a recycling program at my workplace or school. If a recycling program exists, I will advocate for ways to improve and expand it.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 2 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

Angela Sherman 10/24/2018 12:57 PMI am so thankful that I could participate in this Ecochallenge, I have learned a great deal and am already implementing into my daily life. Thank you! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Angela Sherman 10/24/2018 12:56 PMI have switched to reusable mugs, but could be even better with using them more frequently. I do occasionally buy coffee and get singe use coffee cups (I make sure to recycle them) but could buy a reusable mug from that particular location and request to use my personal mug. It makes me feel like I am using resources wisely, reducing trash, and picking out fun reusable mugs helps. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Angela Sherman 10/24/2018 12:52 PMI practice self care by eating right, exercising, trying to avoid and handle stress the best I can, spend time with friends and family, enjoy hobbies, and practicing my faith. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Angela Sherman 10/23/2018 7:35 AMI could incorporate repair more into my lifestyle. Many times I end up buying something new if what I had was broken, such as ripped jeans or clothing. I need to spend more time repair items I have already purchased to use longer. I will save money too in long run. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Know My healthHow do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?
Angela Sherman 10/22/2018 7:20 AMI deal with physical and emotional stress of big problems by trying to focus on things that I can control. I try and fail sometimes to let go of things I have no control over. I exercise to help relieve stress which in turn keeps me less stressed physically. For emotional support I turn to friends, family and our church. I can lead by example to help others cope and be there for my friends, family, and coworkers when they are experiencing stress. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Launch a Recycling ProgramHow might thinking creatively help us address big systems problems differently?
Angela Sherman 10/10/2018 8:31 AMBy thinking creatively collectively we can brainstorm many ideas with higher probability of finding solutions to big system problems. Also by implementing small changes collectively we can make a larger impact to big problems. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?
Angela Sherman 10/08/2018 8:08 AMI keep reuseable bags in my car, if I stop I try to remember to grab out of car. At times I forget, possibly keep in a different place in car, or put my purse next to bags to remember to grab when I pick up my purse. I need to put some in my husband's vehicle to also use when we are in his truck. Being consistent will help establish this as a habit. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles serve an important role in places for health and safety, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. Can you identify the barriers in making this a new habit? How can you set yourself up for success in making this a permanent change?
Angela Sherman 10/04/2018 9:17 AMIt is hard to create a new habit when plastic water bottles are convenient. It is a hassle sometimes to carry reusable water bottle with me. I usually carry an over shoulder bag to put it in to ease carrying it. I could have one to leave at work to ease carrying to and from. It does keep me from spending extra money on a drink and using a plastic bottle. If I do use a plastic bottle I make sure to recycle it.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Angela Sherman 10/04/2018 9:11 AMI can invite friends or family to participate in exercise outdoors such as a hike, or play team sport. I currently will walk with my daughter to a close neighborhood park. I get walk in and quality outdoor play time in with her.
