    Nature Do Nature Activities
What did you observe while spending time outside -- through sight, sound, smell and touch?

While outside, I not only enjoyed nature, but spent many hours helping to conserve it. I've collected native grass seeds, removed invasive species, and cleared trails for others to also enjoy nature. I felt the wind blowing through the prairies, and the softness of the grasses. I heard the crunch of leaves and sticks beneath my feet. I felt a sense of calm while outside, as if it is where I belong.

What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

I currently volunteer at the local nature center, Fontenelle Forest. There I have assisted in restoring the ecosystem. I could become more involved, and plan to do so, in organizations that promote and practice sustainability. One of those organizations is Green Bellevue.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "...our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." Respond to Berry's assertion.

I agree with Father Thomas Berry's assertion that we were made to celebrate nature. We came from nature, it seems only right to appreciate and celebrate it. Even in the current rainy conditions, there is always something to celebrate.

How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

The electricity where I live is primarily generated through a coal power plant. Using coal to generate electricity impacts the environment due to possible pollutants leaking into the atmosphere and soil. With these possible pollutants, it can effect the wildlife living around the plant.
