On a good day, it's best to face problems directly & laugh more.    On a bad day, I will behave poorly.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Forage for My Food
Amongst the motivations for foraging are: a source of food; means of income; connecting with nature; cultural tradition; or transmitting "local ecological knowledge, and a means for stewarding local and native plant populations" (McLain et al. 2012, 13). Which of these would be your chief motivation and why?

My motivation for foraging would be to connect with nature (like getting caught in brambles), and enjoying summer blackberries.  In our area, blackberries are most prevalent.   In the past, there were more italian plums but development seems to have taken those over.

Since your team challenged our team, I though I would take a peek to see who was on the team.  It is so nice to see all the familiar names!  I hope you are well!

I would like to go to bed earlier and wake up refreshed at an early morning hour.  Helpful things:   stop working on computer at night, drink more water, set a good routine, plan the next day to reduce stress,
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

We read about protein rich diets, we watch a lot of food shows about cooking meat, and develop habits to eat meat over vegetables.    Individuals making the change, buying less meat, buying more non-meat protein, and raising awareness about each option.

What are the implications of access to nutritious food for a community?

    Kim Thompson's avatar

Limited or no access to food results in related health issues like diabetes and heart disease.  The prices can be higher also making it cost prohibitive to buy the healthier food even when available in a local store.   Just google "Food desert" to learn about this.
