    USE AN ENERGY METER - This is some thing everyone should do and repeat every few years -- gives you some idea of the electricity consumption and can save you money too! Borrowed a meter from the library a few years back and discovered that the stereo system on standby was costing $30/year. It's now plugged into a power bar and turned on only when needed.
