Waste

Reduce Single-Use Disposables

Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.

Howdy, West Linn Eco-Team! How is everyone's EcoChallenge going? We only have four more days to log our progress until EcoChallenge ends on 10/24, although certainly our impacts will continue long after the challenge is over. What are you working on this weekend?

On Thursday, I bought lunch at a local food truck. It was wrapped in foil, but before they could put the foiled burrito into a paper bag I asked them to skip the bag. BAM! Walked away from the food truck with my burrito and one less paper bag that was going to be recycled in 2 minutes. Simply making this ask before the food is wrapped can make a big impact -- especially if you add it all up over the course of the many burritos that I purchase! :-)

Yesterday, a group of friends joined Alex and me for a lil' trip to Oxbow to see the Salmon Homecoming. En route, we stopped at Nadaka Nature Park in Gresham for a potluck picnic -- check out our efforts to reduce single-use disposables. We all brought food in reusable containers and ate off of reusable plates with reusable forks. NOM!

Howdy, EcoChallengers! It's so great to see everyone on the team, including City staff and several Sustainability Advisory Board members representing. Can't wait to get started on my Challenges. What's everyone working on? One of the things I'm going to do is learn about local environmental justice issues.
