I wish this challenge lasted a full 30 days! It took me about a week to get into the habit of completing all of my challenges. The hardest one to make a daily habit was to spend 30 minutes in nature. However, since I've been prioritizing it, I've been enjoying this part of my day so much. I've been increasing my walks and feeling great. Thanks NWEI!!

Today's the last day of the challenge! Good luck to everyone to continue their efforts going forward!

I read this great article today about how to reduce waste. Let's all make efforts towards #wastenotwednesday this week and every week!

Hey everyone: How many daily challenges will you continue after the October challenge is over? What are they?

      Kristen,
I made a list of all my daily challenges and will continue them going forward. Being part of this community and the Slow Food team these past few weeks was such fun and I learned a lot to elevate my good intentions into new habits. Thanks to all and to NWEI for this platform.

I have been loving this challenge. I think my favorite new habit is the happiness notes. I need to set myself a daily reminder to note three things I am grateful for. I don't want to forget when the challenge is over!

      MISS YOU ALL ALREADY
Yes, and I am going to miss the comaraderie, the information and the inspiration  found here on the Slow Food Team and all the ECO Challengers who shared their posts. I especially loved seeing what people are doing all over the world in their own kitchens, backyards, and communities.
  • Reflection Question
    Transportation Work from Home
It takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. Are you in an industry that would allow you to work from home? What are some obstacles you might find yourself facing while working from home?

I love working from home. I still come to the office, but my productivity is so much higher when I work from my home office. It's something I am going to try and do more often. At least twice a week would be ideal for me!
  • Reflection Question
    Community Host a House Party
How does environmental quality influence your sense of community?

It feels good to get others together to talk about an environmental topic. For this gathering we are hosting a screening of Wasted! to discuss food waste and how we can personally get involved to address it.
  • Reflection Question
    Nature Forage for My Food
Amongst the motivations for foraging are: a source of food; means of income; connecting with nature; cultural tradition; or transmitting "local ecological knowledge, and a means for stewarding local and native plant populations" (McLain et al. 2012, 13). Which of these would be your chief motivation and why?

I must say that even after researching where I could forage for food, I don't really think I'm motivated to actually do it. It's interesting to see the places in my city where trees are located on public land to pick from, but I'm probably not ever going to do that.

The family had an awesome day exploring in the mountains today. We went to a new trail we've never been to and brought a picnic lunch. This challenge has definitely been the catalyst to incorporating more mindfulness into my life. It's benefitting the whole family. Does anyone know when the next EcoChallenge is?
