BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.

This has been a good EcoChallenge for me. I have worked hard on a number of things. I am still struggling to get myself to do my PT, but I will keep working at finding the time for it.
I am proud of our team and all that we have accomplished!

Apparently not as good as it should have been, my points are lacking.

The Native People are most affected by environmental degradation and irresponsibility. They are affected by policies and laws that have unfairly oppressed them for hundreds of years. As these people, who have such a close and spiritual relationship with the planet, have been pushed to the margins, they have had to watch their beloved planet get consumed by greed and the desire for profit. If anyone is interested in learning more about day-to-day issues affecting them, read the newspaper https://www.nativetimes.com/ .

I only work at the job participating in this challenge two days a week, and those two days are very busy. As such, I didn't have time to address this challenge while at work -- and then I have another job that is equally busy, and two kids, three dogs, etc... I would have liked to be more involved, but I just didn't have the time.

What environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?

There are several factors that affect human health in this region. One significant one that we have experienced periodically is poor air quality exacerbated by wild fires. Not only do they provide serious complications for people with respiratory health issues, but they affect all outdoor activities, which we as Oregonians enthusiastically participate in -- when it's safe to do so.

    Health More Fruits and Veggies
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How can we start shifting from a meat-focused food culture to a more plant-based one?

What began as a way to supplement meals with nutritional needs has turned into a multi-billion dollar industry where mass production is key and profit is king.

I think a good way to begin shifting away from this focus is to source your food locally whenever possible. The price of meat is more expensive when it's done on a smaller, more environmentally sound scale, which can contribute to buying less (and in return getting a much better value).

I hiked in the National Forest a few days ago, and it was peaceful. Have you ever seen or eaten chanterelle mushrooms that were dried in place (popped up after our brief rains and dried with the subsequent dry weather)? I saw lots of them and took home a few to eat. Hum, we all had some intestinal problems from that, so I wouldn't really recommend it. I'll try fresh ones next time.

I used the Think Dirty app to audit the ingredients in my personal care products. Not all the products I use were in the database, but a lot were, and it made it a lot easier than researching each item individually.

    Simplicity Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?

Find that I eat less and savor the flavors more.

This beautiful weather we are having is making it easier to get out and enjoy the outdoors!
