Hadia Amanat 10/22/2018 8:42 AMThe challenges so far are going alright, but I want to specifically talk about the Needs Vs. Wants challenge. This challenge I feel is very helpful, and I would recommend. I think it is important to know what we are spending on and how much of what we spend could've been saved. So how I see it is that we should write down the things we need and things we want and then when you look at that list you start to see that some of the things that you want are not necessarily things that you need or are necessary in your every day lives. So things that you need would be a house, food on the table, etc. and wants include Playstation, makeup, etc. But what I have also noticed that for some people it may be the opposite for them or also that some of the things that I may see as wants those may be that individuals needs, so I think it all depends. I do think it is important to know what you spend your things on because after using that system I realized that I've saved up so much money, and who doesn't want to do that. -
Hadia Amanat 10/22/2018 8:34 AMIt's been day 20 of the 22 days of the challenge, and as far as the challenge, they have been a challenge. I've been able to keep up with all the challenges and be able to do them, and I have noticed a change in myself and a change around me. When you really start to focus on the little things, those really do make a change in your life. So for example, spending time outside, for me this was very rewarding because it gives you time away from technology, and you just spend quality tie outside being active, which is good for you and your mind because it is a break from all the work you have to do all day, which can also make this challenge a little hard. But overall, I've been happy with the outcome and it's nice to know that these small changes are making a bigger impact on the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersFive minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?
Hadia Amanat 10/03/2018 9:56 PMI think the next step is to figure out other ways you can save water and reduce the use of excessive amounts of water in your daily life. But I believe that the best way to do that is through small steps and then gradually start getting better are the goal you are trying to reach, so for example, you can practice flushing the toilet only when necessary. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Eat MindfullyMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?
Hadia Amanat 10/03/2018 9:52 PMWhen you practice mindfulness while eating you helps you enjoy your meal more. But I think most importantly it gives you time out of the day to just sit down without any distractions and to just have a good time and not have to worry about anything and your mind is clear of thoughts or distractions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity necessary for practicing simplicity?
Hadia Amanat 10/03/2018 9:49 PMI think if you've ever read anything and felt connected to it or seen a piece of art work and it moved you, that is something that is so simple, so that simplicity encourages creativity. For some that may be through meditating or doing yoga and that may cause you to drift off, but instead you could be productive and do something creative. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Hadia Amanat 10/03/2018 9:44 PMI think that this is absolutely true. And the implications for a group of people who spend their time indoors may be that they are more stressed out, depressed, and not at peace with their lives, so constantly complaining or behaving aggressively. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Enjoy the Sunrise/SunsetFather Thomas Berry says, "...our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." Respond to Berry's assertion.
Hadia Amanat 10/03/2018 9:41 PMI agree with what Thomas Berry has to say, but I also believe that if we take those few minutes out of the day to sit down and be able to reflect on the day, but not only that it is a way to "cleanse." I think it in a way gives peace to your mind. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Switch to Cold WaterWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Hadia Amanat 10/03/2018 9:38 PMI think with the money I save to be quite honest would most likely be used towards everyday things dinner, groceries, or other necessary needs in one's daily life.
