Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Energy
Install Alternative Energy
I will install alternative energy systems, such as solar electric systems or solar water heaters.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? Do you know how your compost will be used and the benefits it has on the environment?
Eddie Barton 10/17/2018 8:03 AMI used to compost everything I could. I am fortunate to have a nice sized piece of property so I have a big compost pile, but as the kids grew up and life became busier we just stopped. Being part of this Eco challenge has spurred me back in to the habit of separating out the compostables. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyHow is your region being affected by climate change? How will it be affected in the future?
Eddie Barton 10/17/2018 7:55 AMOur state lies on the Pacific Ocean so rising coastal waters are a definite concern. Also as the oceans warm up it will have a significant effect on commercial fishing that many coastal economies rely on. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Eddie Barton 10/16/2018 10:35 AMI like to practice gratitude because I had a very modest childhood. We simply could not afford much beyond the bare necessities so I am extra grateful for all of the blessing bestowed upon me now. I am now motivated to help others by performing random acts of kindness and generosity.
