Meet My Local Farmers
I will visit my nearest farm to find out who produces my food, and will learn about the quality of life of those who produce my food in other regions of the world to make better choices when I shop.

Work-Life Balance
I will not work more than 8 hour days each day to practice work-life balance.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.

Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.

Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided and spend 60 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Simplicity
Support a Sharing Economy
I will create or support a sharing economy with family, friends, and neighbors.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Work-Life BalanceIs practicing work-life balance difficult to do? How does it feel when you first begin? How does this feel for you after 21 days?
Veronica Beaupre 10/24/2018 3:47 AMIt is very difficult to practice a work-life balance. I don't think it got any easier as the challenge went on. Leaving without feeling guilty is difficult when people around you are still working. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Meet My Local FarmersWhen you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?
Veronica Beaupre 10/22/2018 4:57 AMThe advantage of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from is that you can see the conditions that the food is produced under. I think that this would enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food. Understanding that these farmers are responsible for producing the food that we rely on to live is an important first step to understanding that there is a balance between the price of food and the quality of life of the people who produce it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Veronica Beaupre 10/03/2018 8:00 AMSpending more time outdoors gives you the opportunity to consider where you are in relation to the other places on Earth. Personally, when I spend time outside, I consider when the buildings around me were built, who built them, what people have been where I am today, and what existed before what I can see was there. These thought exercises allow me to consider the space I occupy in the world and the way that I am impacting it for the future. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Veronica Beaupre 10/03/2018 7:58 AMPersonal values can be used to enrich an exercise routine and make it easier to fulfill the time commitment. Often, the excuse we give ourselves for avoiding exercise is that we don't have the time to do it because it requires missing out on opportunities to be with our friends or spend time in nature. However, we can do those things AND exercise. For example, we could invite a friend to join a yoga class with us or go explore a hiking trail. Exercise is not about grinding out hours in the gym or on the elliptical; it's about being active in our day-to-day lives in a way that allows us to be happy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Support Native CommunitiesIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Veronica Beaupre 10/03/2018 7:53 AMBalance requires finding the point you can maintain. If you do too much, then you risk burn-out. If you do too little, then you are not creating enough of an impact. When it comes to sustainability, you need to find the balance point where you are maximizing your impact and your efforts. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Support a Sharing EconomyWhat are some of the barriers to sharing economies? What is your plan for supporting or creating one in your community?
Veronica Beaupre 10/03/2018 7:49 AMSharing economies require continuous community engagement. It is uncomfortable in today's world to reach out to strangers without knowing what common characteristics you share. I recently joined my local "Buy Nothing" Facebook group, where I will be able to begin sharing items I no longer need or services that I can offer while also getting what I need from my community.
