I grew up with a dad who was obsessed with the thermostat. This instilled great self-awareness on my energy use and the things I can do to conserve energy. I value efficiency and it feels good to conserve when possible.

An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

No, I'm not surprised and would rather use $1500 for a vacation!

I can insulate my water heater and pipes as well as turn the faucet off when I'm in the middle of brushing my teeth.

I become more familiar with my surroundings and get an opportunity to stop and chat with neighbors when they happen to see me walk by.

    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?

I usually remember to bring bags when going on large shopping trips, but find myself more often forgetting bags when going to get a few items. In that case, I carry my items out or in some cases buy another reusable bag.
