Linda Byington 10/24/2018 8:52 PMThank you for doing this. I like to consider myself eco-conscious, but the extra reminders are always good. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Host a House PartyHow does environmental quality influence your sense of community?
Linda Byington 10/23/2018 7:06 PMMy community members are involved with plants in some way, so a healthy environment is paramount to our work. Caring for the plants and the environment is what brings my community closer. -
Linda Byington 10/23/2018 7:00 PMI've been enjoying this exercise, and awareness makes new habits. I hope to continue my actions when this is over. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Join a Local CSADependable fresh food, better prices (cutting out carbon-heavy supply chain and grocery stores), supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these benefits (or others not listed here) inspire you the most?
Linda Byington 10/22/2018 5:45 PMSupporting local farmers inspire me the most. I talked to one at the farmers' market and am on their list for the next CSA. I also look forward to eating and cooking with possibly unfamiliar ingredients. -
Linda Byington 10/22/2018 12:39 PMI took a walk yesterday and reflected on the changes of color for fall. If that isn't meditative, I don't know what is ;-) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Take ControlHow do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?
Linda Byington 10/21/2018 6:21 PMMost people cannot live in a bubble, unless they are a guru on a mountain ;-) If one lives in an unhealthy environment it will have a negative effect on the person's health. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Learn About Local Environmental Justice ConcernsWho is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?
Linda Byington 10/19/2018 9:32 PMI live near a lake so environmental degradation affects my local community and the wildlife that lives in and around the lake. Negative changes affect the animals' food and shelter. I was glad to learn that my city is replanting trees next month to help encourage and sustain the wildlife. -
Linda Byington 10/19/2018 9:25 PMI learned that if you live in an area that is subject to drought then certain "green" activities aren't always the best. If it takes more water to clean something for recycling then it is better to trash it. It sounds strange until you take into account that some areas need water trucked in and that action has a negative impact on that environment. -
Linda Byington 10/17/2018 6:08 PMI told a friend about this challenge. She thought it was a good idea to do it more than just 3 weeks a year. I'm going to try to extend my actions for as long as I can.
