Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.

Try a New Way to Prep
I will try a new method of food preparation, such as canning, pickling, or baking bread.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.

Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.

Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.

Health
Eliminate Toxic Plastics
I will avoid buying toxic plastics - including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl - and instead replace them with bioplastic or durable options.
Nature
Forage for My Food
I will use the 'Learn More' resources below to find where I can forage for my own food locally.

Coral Byrd 10/23/2018 9:40 AMI'm finding it hard to eliminate the plastics. So much of our food comes wrapped in plastic at the grocery store, even vegetables, and if you order something from a deli you can't buy it without it being wrapped in plastic. The challenge is definitely making me more aware of my choices, however. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Coral Byrd 10/11/2018 10:19 AMOK, I admit it. I went to Burgerville today. I didn't even think about it, and ordered a soda... that came in a cup with a polystyrene (number 6) lid and a straw. This challenge is at least making me more aware of my choices, where before I wouldn't have even thought about it. I will have to think about how I can eliminate the lid and straw - how can I do this without spilling it all over my car? hmmm. -
Coral Byrd 10/04/2018 8:21 AMCompleting my daily challenges takes some pre-planning, and I think that’s why a lot of people don’t live this way every day. But I enjoy being more mindful about my impact on the earth and my health.
