Heather's actions
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Nature
Forage for My Food
I will use the 'Learn More' resources below to find where I can forage for my own food locally.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Heather Cappel 10/19/2018 8:47 AMI got a cool reusable straw from an exhibit at the Jordan Schnitzer art museum going on about plastics - I definitely recommend this as a beautiful, educational display. (You could choose from a straw or reusable take-out utensils if you fill out their survey.)-
Claire Malmstrom 10/22/2018 12:29 PMThis sounds like a cool exhibit! I wish I could attend.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersFive minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?
Heather Cappel 10/05/2018 9:00 AMI play a song (or sometimes sing!) while I'm in the shower and try to race the song to finish my shower before it ends. This has made this challenge really fun! My next step to water conservation will be looking at how I use water in the kitchen for dishes and cooking and seeing if there are ways to be more efficient.
