Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? Do you know how your compost will be used and the benefits it has on the environment?
Kate Cappleman Sinz 10/16/2018 5:49 AMI have historically composted, but have been lazy about it lately -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Kate Cappleman Sinz 9/25/2018 6:25 AMI use vegetable bags some, straws sometimes, and single use yogurt containers. I could make my own yogurt (did this in the past) and pack it in reusable containers, or could use larger containers, pack in reusable containers, and donate the large containers to my CSA for flowers.
