Jordeen Chang 10/15/2018 5:04 PMI went to the Alemany farmer's market for the first time this weekend! It was really fun because they have a lot of Asian produce that I like to eat but never find at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. When I was younger I used to go every week with my dad, but ever since I moved to the city, I kind of forgot about them until this challenge. I definitely want to make this a part of my grocery shopping routine. Next time I'm going to bring my own produce bags so I don't have to use the plastic bags there. -
Jordeen Chang 10/10/2018 12:34 AMI watched the PBS documentary "Regaining Food Sovereignty". It's great to see that these communities are able to go back to their traditional practices of growing/hunting their own food, but I wonder how people living in cities like me can also regain food sovereignty. I definitely do want to shop at farmers' markets more often. What else should I do?-
Ashley Lorden 10/10/2018 11:48 AMDo you have a window or patio that gets sunlight to grow a few plants (herbs are nice to start with)? If not, you could look for a community garden in your neighborhood you could help maintain. And/or, many CSAs offer farm visits for their members, it is a cool way to get much better connected to where your food comes from and have a nice day trip outside the city!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Jordeen Chang 10/10/2018 12:26 AMFood sovereignty stands up against these large corporations whose main purpose is to make money, and allows us to reclaim control of what we put into our own bodies.
