Donna's actions
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 3 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Donna Christman 10/09/2018 5:53 AMI don't think people understand the long-term environmental impact of that styrofoam cup or that plastic diaper. Somehow most people think there is more land, more, trees, more birds - it doesn't matter to them outside of their own little corner of the world. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealthWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than any other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How can we start shifting from a meat-focused food culture to a more plant-based one?
Donna Christman 10/03/2018 8:30 AMThe government subsidies to dairy farmers and beef ranchers and the US Marketing industry encourage Americans to eat more meat. Big, rugged Americans "need" big, American steaks and burgers - things like that.
