Michael Pollan states that "it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor." What are your thoughts on this?

Sometimes good foods are more expensive than processed foods at the grocery store.  However, you may save lots of money eating healthy foods because it can decrease the amount of problems you will need to visit the doctor for.

Hiking could help me spend more time in nature.  Taking my baby for a walk could help me spend time with family.

What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

Meat is delicious.  It has plenty of protein.  We are familiar with it.  We can afford it.  Its more available that filling vegetarian options.  I think it speaks more to us being ignorant of other options than anything else.  It speaks to our tastebuds and fast ways of living.  I think we could shift if we learned more about meatless recipes, had chances to try good veggies, and if good veggie options were more available in stores and restaurants.
