REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my HomeTo what extent do you believe that environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?
Wendy Crawford 10/22/2018 12:45 PMI think environmental and food factors contribute immensely towards personal health. I recently joined up with a health and wellness company and they did a study that said using "normal" mainstream household cleaners is as dangerous as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day - I made the switch to all natural cleaners with this company and am very happy!! -
Wendy Crawford 10/03/2018 8:22 AMI am excited to learn and see what others do and learn from this challenge - it's all about raising awareness! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Meet My Local FarmersWhen you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?
Wendy Crawford 10/03/2018 8:22 AMI am thrilled even our big chain grocery store carries locally grown produce most of the year. I am also thankful to have a nice Pay what you can afford farm stand just a few miles down the road from me. I think they do a fantastic job at making locally grown produce available to anyone that wants it, regardless of whether or not you can afford it or not. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than in other places, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Wendy Crawford 10/03/2018 8:19 AMPeople will not change unless they want to change and it is important to them, unfortunately, even the AHA does not promote "Healthy" eating plans, I don't have a good answer for this other than just continuing to raise awareness, but in the meantime americans keep getting fatter and fatter and more unhealthy :( -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Foods DietMichael Pollan states that "it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor." What are your thoughts on this?
Wendy Crawford 10/03/2018 8:17 AMYES! Preventative health is not only easier on our pocketbooks, but allows one to have a better quality of life! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Wendy Crawford 10/03/2018 8:16 AMYou can save all those peelings in a zip loc bag in the freezer, then when you have time and enough, you can cook up for veggie broth - or some things like carrots and potatoes, you don't really need to peel, just scrub up and use the whole thing!
