Pronomita's actions
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Transportation
Work from Home
I will work from home 2 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by opting into paperless billing and ending unwanted subscriptions.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reuseable one but it's just hard to make the switch. Think about what stands in your way of making this a habit. By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Pronomita Dey 10/08/2018 11:07 AMI feel good actually. Washing my mug to get coffee and not using 3-4 disposable cups everyday. 4*52. That's a good lot of waste I'm saving a year.-
Pronomita Dey 10/08/2018 11:08 AMThat would be 4*7*52

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Pronomita Dey 10/08/2018 11:05 AMHonestly it doesn't feel so good at an individual level. The real feel good factor comes in when I see this kid eating a candy. Happy, he walked some 10 steps. He stops, takes 10 steps back, picks up the wrapper he dropped, stash it into the pocket of his shorts.
I am not lost in the adorable gesture this kid displayed, it gives me immense joy knowing there are parents who from Day 1 teach their kids the environmental and social ethics. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Pronomita Dey 10/08/2018 11:00 AMDisposable cups/glasses at workplace. They can be replaced by every person keeping a personal cup/mug/glass. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Pronomita Dey 10/08/2018 10:58 AMReduce : I no more order cutlery when I am ordering food online. I rather use personal steel utensils.
Reuse : I cook only on weekends. The fruit and vegetable peels goes to my landlord's garden.
Refuse : I carry a cloth bag for grocery shopping. Refuse plastic bags.
Repair : There is an old flower bed patch behind my balcony. I am watering them every morning, been two weeks now.
Repurpose : Using plastic bags to store items in house rather than throwing them away and adding on to the waste pile.
I try doing little things. I'd encourage you to do and teach around you too.
Thank you :)
