John's actions
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 5 minutes researching and recycling all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

John Dutt 10/23/2018 1:39 PMThis is it - one day to go! I received confirmation from the City's Green Team lead that team prizes will go to the bureau with the highest number of points per participant. And you know who that is? US! There are several bureaus hot on our heals so please go to the site and check in and post a comment, especially those who have yet to do so. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
John Dutt 10/22/2018 7:59 AMI love the new Bottle Drop system. I have become much more consistent in recycling all possible cans and bottles with the easy to use system!-

Happy Friday! Don't forget to power down that computer for the weekend!-
John Dutt 10/24/2018 2:03 PMIt was an option under Energy topic "Power down computer" or something like that? It looks like you have only 4 items selected so you should be able to add that as one more and get some credit for it. -
Teri Poppino 10/24/2018 9:50 AMJD, I've turned both monitors and computer off each night. Is there a special challenge for that? Did I miss it? Can I still capture my efforts? -
Monica Martin 10/19/2018 9:19 AMThanks for the reminder!

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
-
Teri Poppino 10/08/2018 10:43 AMI would love to be able to do that! Unfortunately, I have to drop George, The Mighty Wonderdog, off at my Mom's on the way in and her road is a long way from the bus stop. Then we only have two pool cars to use once I get here. (Also, I'd have to take three busses and transfer two times to get from home to my office, so it's not quite do-able yet.) Kudos to you, though! -
