What environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?

One of the environmental factors that affect human health in our region is Radon gas. Radon gas is an ordorless, tasteless radio active gas caused by the breakdown of granite deposited in the area by the Missoula Floods (more here on those: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missoula_Floods). It (Radon gas) is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the country. It also varies from one home to another so because your neighbor doesn't have it is no guarantee for you. The test is inexpensive and abatement is effective.

Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

Balance is important to sustainability as they are part and parcel of the same thing. You cannot have one without the other. It is equally important to realize that growth will cause this balance to fluctuate and that, therefore, it is not a static point. Without balance, and an awareness of its mutable nature, we will risk the future.

Amazing sunrise on the bike ride in this morning. A bit chilly but that's what the wool is for. Heh! Need to get a photo next time!
