Amanda's actions
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 50 minute(s) each day.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a walk for 10 minutes each day.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 2 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to 2.68 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Transportation
Drive Less
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Go for a Daily WalkFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Amanda Elson 10/18/2018 9:52 AMWhen I walk to work in the morning or take a morning walk while I work I feel more energized. I don't drink coffee so it can take me awhile to fully wake up in the mornings and when I get to walk to work or take a morning break walk I feel more awake quicker than when I do not, especially if it is cold outside I love walking in the colder weather! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Drive LessHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Amanda Elson 10/12/2018 9:45 AMWhen visiting other countries I relied on public transportation to get around and realized how great it can be, and was able to be semi independent in places I was visiting by myself and didn't always know the language. Metros/subways are especially nice because they stop at every stop, and if they are underground do not get caught in traffic, vs buses that will just pass by the spot if there is no one to pick up or drop off and are subject to traffic delays. Sadly I do not believe the public transport infrastructure even comes close to being as usable as other countries I have visited. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Amanda Elson 10/12/2018 9:40 AMI regularly use a large reusable water cup with washable straw along with not using the veggies bags at grocery stores and just putting the veggies into my cart. I try to remember my reusable grocery bags for grocery shopping but often forget them :(-
Linda Byington 10/12/2018 10:11 PMI've gotten good at remembering bags at the grocery store but then, oddly, forget to bring them in at other stores. Baby steps ...

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Amanda Elson 10/12/2018 9:37 AMBy inviting friends to work out with you and working out outside as much as possible. Or by joining a gym or studio that promotes the type of exercise you enjoy like dancing or rock climbing and meeting new friends a the new studio while working out!
