I made a Dr's appointment for Monday, I don't like going to the doctor but I know it's in my best interest, especially to stay healthy around cold/flu season

Here's the article I read about the negative environmental affects from fast fashion: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-44968561. In positive new, big companies, such as Nike are beginning to consider the environment in their production. By 2024, Nike's goal is to use only recycled plastic in their shoes.

Here's the article I read today about fast fashion: https://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/2017/07/26/fast-fashion-is-a-disaster-for-women-and-the-environment/#307a5fe81fa4

Not only does Fast Fashion hurt the environment but also those who make the clothes, which is predominately women ages 14-24 who make $3 a day for their work.

    • One garbage truck of textiles are wasted each second
    • The fashion industry is the second-biggest consumer of water, creating 20% of waste water
    • The fashion industry generates more greenhouse gas emissions than all international flights and maritime shipping combined
Obviously, the first step to help our environment in the fashion industry, involved apparel brands re-designing their supply chain, but consumers can become more conscious and responsible too. We can read labels before we purchase, and look for natural and organic fibers, non-toxic dyes, take-back programs, and ethical production

Today, I read an article about Stacey Dooley’s documentary “Fashion’s Dirty Secrets” and learned that the fashion industry is one of the top five most polluting industries in the world.

In addition, due to cotton farming, a 5 meter deep sea, the Aral Sea has dried up! That’s an entire eco-system destroyed!

I also decided, for my friend’s wedding in November to wear a dress from my closet instead of purchasing a new one. It’s the small steps, that can make a big difference!

I listened to a Ted Talk by Justine Leconte to help people transition from buying fast fashion to "fair fashion". You can find the Ted Talk on YouTube, the title is "Fast fashion to fair fashion: a tool box to change the fashion industry"

I used the 'energysavvy' website to complete my energy audit, because I have only lived in my apartment for five months. Apparently, my energy usage was better than 90% of the homes in Chicago.

I just make sure to turn off the AC, fans, and lights before I go to work. It's even saved me $15 on my electricity bill.

How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

I love those things.  I use them all the time and they have cut down my reseal-able plastic bag use tremendously.  Mine are at least 5 years old and I pop them in the dishwasher where they clean up beautifully.
