Sarah 's actions
Nature

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 15 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.

I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Health
Avoid refined sugar
I will adopt a diet free of refined sugars, which eliminates sweetened beverages, candy, and processed foods.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Health
Support Pollution Reduction
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
Food
Meet My Local Farmers
I will visit my nearest farm to find out who produces my food, and will learn about the quality of life of those who produce my food in other regions of the world to make better choices when I shop.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Health
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
I will spend 15 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, their causes, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Energy
Power Down the Computer
I will power down my computer and monitor when not using it for more than 2 hours, saving up to (1.1) lbs of CO2 each day that I do this.
Community
Connect with a Nonprofit
I will connect with a local nonprofit, environmental or otherwise, and find out how I can get involved or become a member.
Health
Learn More about Food Deserts
I will spend 15 minutes learning about food deserts and find out how I can advocate for healthy and fresh food in my region.
Health

I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Sarah Gardner 10/23/2018 8:03 AMI've learned to control my calendar and not let my calendar control me. If I know I have a stressful day, I'll book time to take a walk. If I know we have a busy weekend, I won't plan anything during the week in the evenings, and/or I'll cook healthy food ahead of time. When I am intentional with my time, I'm much happier and healthier! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Avoid refined sugarBefore you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?
Sarah Gardner 10/22/2018 8:25 AMI've been working for a while now to break my sugar addiction, and used this challenge as additional motivation. When I first started, I had no idea how addicted I was, or even that sugar addiction was a thing!
I've found that I feel SO much better without it. I sleep much better and don't have crashes during the day like I used to!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Sarah Gardner 10/17/2018 8:20 AMNext spring I'd like to plant a rain garden and use some edible plants; we get the benefit of food, roof water is cleaned, and runoff is reduced. -
