Narada's actions
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 1 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Energy
Online Energy Audit
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Community
Connect with a Nonprofit
I will connect with a local nonprofit, environmental or otherwise, and find out how I can get involved or become a member.
Community
Meet My Neighbors
I will meet 2 new neighbor(s) each day.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Narada Golden 10/11/2018 7:30 PMIt has been a busy busy week! Not only is hard to get a good night sleep when I am busy but it gets harder to follow through with the EcoChallenge commitments that I want to do. For me, time and mental space is usually a critical ingredient for changing my daily habits.-
Meghan Jones 10/12/2018 7:55 PMNarada, thanks for sharing your experience. I completely agree! A lot of the EcoChallenge actions require planning ahead, and when I get busy is when I am most tempted to choose options that are less sustainable, like takeout or motorized transportation. I hope you're able to rest and recuperate over the weekend!

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Narada Golden 10/04/2018 8:54 AMSkip the Straw - I rarely use straws so this is a simple ask. I will now make sure that I ask for "no straw please" before servers bring me a drink. That said, straws must account for less than 1% of plastic use in my typical week and less than 2% of the non-recyclable plastic I use. So, I'll focus on other areas of plastic use too.
