Narada's actions

Waste

Skip the Straw

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Per Manda's I completed this energy audit. I'd say it doesn't reflect some of the common options in New York City but was still helpful. We do have smart thermostats installed which are great!

    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

It has been a busy busy week! Not only is hard to get a good night sleep when I am busy but it gets harder to follow through with the EcoChallenge commitments that I want to do. For me, time and mental space is usually a critical ingredient for changing my daily habits.

Narada, thanks for sharing your experience. I completely agree! A lot of the EcoChallenge actions require planning ahead, and when I get busy is when I am most tempted to choose options that are less sustainable, like takeout or motorized transportation. I hope you're able to rest and recuperate over the weekend!

    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

Skip the Straw - I rarely use straws so this is a simple ask. I will now make sure that I ask for "no straw please" before servers bring me a drink. That said, straws must account for less than 1% of plastic use in my typical week and less than 2% of the non-recyclable plastic I use. So, I'll focus on other areas of plastic use too.
