Elizabeth's actions
Nature
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 10 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Nature
Leave No Trace
I will practice the seven principles of Leave No Trace when doing nature activities alone or with family and friends.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 10 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Elizabeth Gorman 10/20/2018 10:15 AMRe-potted plants yesterday - gave some away today. During the winter months, houseplants not only improve air quality, but I think they help with our mental health! It's good to share with friends. -
Elizabeth Gorman 10/14/2018 6:45 AMSpent much of the day yesterday making pesto from basil out in the garden - had to get it harvested due to frost warning! Pondering whether it's smarter to make and freeze, or just buy a jar from Aldi's? But I guess it's just like anything.... you can spend twenty hours making a blanket, or you can buy one for $20 at K-Mart. Making your own is just more satisfying.... -
Elizabeth Gorman 10/12/2018 4:37 AMYesterday, we had a heating guy stop in to look at our non-working fireplace. Always a draft coming in & we assumed it was from the chimney. Turns out a hole in the bottom (under the fake logs) was drawing up air from the basement. It'll get stuffed with insulation & we'll be needing less heat this winter! -
Elizabeth Gorman 10/11/2018 6:00 AMI spent LOTS of time outdoors yesterday, as it was the last warm day of the year. Today is rain & a cold front moving in. Spending time outdoors today could prove to be a real challenge! -
Elizabeth Gorman 10/10/2018 4:54 AMChallenge has been going well, as it's been beautiful weather & easy to get outdoors. We'll see how it goes at the end of the week when it's cold & rainy! -
Elizabeth Gorman 10/09/2018 4:19 AMTook out the compost this morning & started a new bag in our kitchen counter compost pot!-
Monica Martin 10/09/2018 7:47 AMI recently purchased my first composter. I always thought that it would be kind of a hassle. Instead, I love taking it out and starting a new pot. You can actually see the results first hand. It's so awesome!
