  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Five minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?

Showering every other day instead of every day.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

I have noticed that many of my purchases are on clothing, even though I have a full closet full of clothes that I never wear...some with tags on.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Needs Vs. Wants
How is creativity necessary for practicing simplicity?

It takes creativity to find solutions to problems. Sometimes the easy, convenient solution may not be the best one.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Forage for My Food
Amongst the motivations for foraging are: a source of food; means of income; connecting with nature; cultural tradition; or transmitting "local ecological knowledge, and a means for stewarding local and native plant populations" (McLain et al. 2012, 13). Which of these would be your chief motivation and why?

My main reason for foraging would be source of food. And tasty pies.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reuseable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to establish this a successful habit?

Tonight I carried my groceries out to my car in my hands! Having a small reusable tote bag in my car would be helpful in these situations.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

Green Century Electronics is in NW Portland and opens at 8am most mornings. They’ll take old TV’s and air conditioners.

I just learned that I don’t need a bin to compost.
