My challenge was to spend 30 minutes out in nature everyday. This was difficult for me because like many college students, I have a very busy schedule with classes, athletics, and extracurricular activities; so finding time to get out was a struggle. What helped me accomplish my goal was having places close to me to go to (the marsh and the Mississippi river) and also going out there with a purpose. I was much more motivated to go when I had a plan to fish or draw, rather than just going out to sit there. I believe this helped the environment because it made me respect and appreciate our local nature so I feel more connected to it. So when I hear about the city and companies wanting to develop the marsh, I feel more motivated to speak up and protect that area than if I didn't do this challenge. What I discovered from this challenge is that I feel much better when I am out in nature. During those 30 minutes everyday, I feel happy, relaxed, and stress-free. I wasn't concerned about grades, homework or anything else other than enjoying myself and taking in all the beauty around me. Overall, even though this was hard to work into my schedule, it was definitely worth it.
