I live by this, and grow, cook, process, and preserve a lot of my own food. I find that seeing the process of growing food--vegetables, meats, dairy, and eggs--and participating in that work, provides me with so much satisfaction. Feeling good about what I eat is probably as important to my overall health as the nutrients contained in that food. There is so much love embodied in food that you have touched with your own hands at every stage--as a seed; a new calf; as milk, then curd, then cheese; fresh from the garden, and fermented with salt; dug from the dirt, or pulled from the root cellar. I would add that it is better to see food grow than to see the inside of a store, if or when that option is available to you!

Monica Martin 10/08/2018 6:22 PMThis sounds like a dream existence to me. I have a garden and my neighbors have chickens but that's the extend of it right now. Someday.... maybe.
