REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergyWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Michael Heck 10/04/2018 7:48 AMWe are looking at updating our siding and other portions of our house to make it more energy efficient. -
Michael Heck 10/04/2018 7:17 AMWhat I thought would be an easy challenge "Leave work after only 8 hours" is actually difficult, I find myself checking out chat programs that my team uses while at home to assure I am not missing anything -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityIn your opinion, how do social inequalities diminish a strong sense of community?
Michael Heck 10/04/2018 6:45 AMThe American culture has placed great value on the "American Dream" the two cars, house, family thing that many, including myself, have chased. Because of this value society tends to have a poor view of people who fall short of obtaining these "Goals" no matter if it is due to illness, loss of job, or disability. If someone has not or does not seem to be chasing these goal we tend to think of them as "other" (weirdos, lazy, freeloaders, etc.) instead of reaching out to them and offering what help we can. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunityHow can your community support inclusive decision making?
Michael Heck 10/04/2018 6:26 AMBy making sure to ask open ended questions and assure that everyone has a voice. Put important things to a vote of the entire community rather than just a select few. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityWhat would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?
Michael Heck 10/03/2018 11:59 AMEmotions, as a guy we were brought up to believe that men, REAL MEN, don't show emotions. This has been proven unhealthy and it is something I need to reflect on, healthy ways to express emotions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicityIs practicing work-life balance difficult to do? How does it feel when you first begin? How does this feel for you after 21 days?
Michael Heck 10/03/2018 11:40 AMIt is very difficult to practice work-life balance, the drive to do the best we can at work and to meet deadlines is something that can and does affect work life balance. I embrace the Agile methodologies because they are about getting some of that back. It feels wrong at some level to not be putting in a 50+ hour work week at the beginning because we have been conditioned that is the norm and we should be giving that much to the company but as time goes by you will find that with only 40 hours a week you are more productive, happier, and more creative in your solutions because you have the time with loved ones or hobbies that you crave. -
